چکیده

The broadband ferromagnetic resonance FMR linewidth of the free layer of magnetic tunnel junctions is used as a simple diagnostic of the quality of the magnetic structure. The FMR linewidth increases near the field regions of free layer reversal and pinned layer reversal, and this increase correlates with an increase in magnetic hysteresis in unpatterned films, low-frequency noise in patterned devices, and previous observations of magnetic domain ripple by use of Lorentz microscopy. Postannealing changes the free layer FMR linewidth, indicating that considerable magnetic disorder, originating in the exchange-biased pinned layer, is transferred to the free layer. © 2009 American Institute of Physics. Enhanced ferromagnetic resonance linewidth of the free layer in perpendicular magnetic tunnel junctions.

We report the frequency dependence of the ferromagnetic resonance linewidth of the free layer in magnetic tunnel junctions with all perpendicular-to-the-plane magnetized layers. While the magnetic-field-swept linewidth nominally shows a linear growth with frequency in agreement with Gilbert damping, an additional frequency-dependent linewidth broadening occurs that shows a strong asymmetry betw...

Gilbert damping in single and multilayer ultrathin films: role of interfaces in nonlocal spin dynamics.

Unique features of the Gilbert damping in magnetic multilayers were investigated by ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) using magnetic single and double layer structures prepared by molecular beam epitaxy. The FMR linewidth for the Fe films in the double layer structures was larger than the FMR linewidth in the single Fe films having the same thickness. The additional FMR linewidth scaled inversely w...

Ferromagnetic resonance study of sputtered Co | Ni multilayers

We report on room temperature ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) studies of [t Co|2t Ni]×N sputtered films, where 0.1 ≤ t ≤ 0.6 nm. Two series of films were investigated: films with same number of Co|Ni bilayer repeats (N=12), and samples in which the overall magnetic layer thickness is kept constant at 3.6 nm (N=1.2/t). The FMR measurements were conducted with a high frequency broadband coplanar wa...

Magnetic relaxation in metallic films: Single and multilayer structures

The intrinsic magnetic relaxations in metallic films will be discussed. It will be shown that the intrinsic damping mechanism in metals is caused by incoherent scattering of itinerant electron-hole pair excitations by phonons and magnons. Berger @L. Berger, Phys. Rev. B 54, 9353 ~1996!# showed that the interaction between spin waves and itinerant electrons in multilayers can lead to interface G...
